The aim of the Police Now programme is to not only create extraordinary police officers, but also to create exceptional leaders in our communities who can act as ambassadors for the police for years to come.
Those who choose to leave policing and enter other professions will take their direct experience of frontline policing with them. By sharing their personal knowledge far and wide, they’ll create a better understanding of the extraordinary challenges and situations that the police face, every single day.
These Police Now Ambassadors will become advocates for policing in other walks of life, from journalism to finance, banking or politics. Ultimately, they’ll help us to achieve Police Now’s vitally important mission: to transform communities through a reduction in crime and increase in public confidence.
Police Now officers are fully warranted, uniformed police officers who operate on the frontline, in areas of high deprivation that could be home to as many as 20,000 people.
Over the two years of the programme, their role is to demonstrate not only a significant reduction in crime in their community, but also increase trust in the police and evidence that residents are on track to experience broader opportunities and a higher quality of life in the future.
This role was specifically chosen to give the officers the opportunity to showcase their problem-solving skills, leadership potential and fundamentally make a tangible difference in the most challenged communities in the country. Because we believe that great police officers, given the highest levels of support and freedom, can contribute to changing lives.
Police Now was started inside the Metropolitan Police Service in 2015. In 2016, we became independent and are now working with 28 forces across England and Wales. We’re working with the following partner forces to offer opportunities to graduates on Police Now’s 2019 programme:

“He has been a breath of fresh air and is really turning things around. He produces excellent communications. Residents now feel they have a Dedicated Ward Officer who really cares about the crime problems on the ward and is committed to making the ward a safer place and have a real impact on their quality of life….The fact that Police Now brought him to us shows that this is a scheme that delivers a quality product and service.”
