Driving licence requirements vary depending on the police force you apply to:
1. No driving licence required:
- City of London Police
- Metropolitan Police
2. Full, manual UK driving licence required by conditional offer (September 2026):
- Avon and Somerset Police
- Devon and Cornwall Police
- Dorset Police
3. Full, manual, UK driving licence required by final offer (February 2027):
- North Wales Police
- Northamptonshire Police
4. Full UK manual or UK Automatic driving licence by February 2027 (will be reviewed on case-by-case basis):
- Thames Valley Police
Please check that you meet the driving licence requirements for the force you are interested in joining before submitting an application. If you don’t yet have your licence, you must have your practical driving test booked at the point of application.
