Suffolk Constabulary is the territorial police force responsible for policing the county of Suffolk in East Anglia, England. Established in 1967, the force was formed through the merger of the East Suffolk Constabulary, West Suffolk Constabulary, and Ipswich Borough Police.

Police Now has recruited, trained and developed graduates in over 30+ forces to become police officers and detectives on our national graduate programme since 2017.

Suffolk Constabulary

The force covers an area of 1,466 square miles and serves a population of approximately 761,000 residents. Suffolk is predominantly rural but includes vibrant urban areas such as Ipswich, Lowestoft, Bury St Edmunds, and Felixstowe. The county boasts 49 miles of coastline and is home to the southern part of the Broads National Park.

Suffolk Constabulary operates with a workforce comprising approximately 1,399 police officers, 33 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), 917 police staff, and 116 special constables.

Our focus on diversity and inclusion

Suffolk Constabulary are committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Our mission is to serve our communities. The most effective way we can do this is if the people who work for us are representative of our communities.

We are working hard to increase diversity and inclusion where communities are currently under-represented.

We want to encourage people of diverse backgrounds, experience and beliefs, who share our value of caring and want to make a difference in the community, to work for us.

"

At Suffolk Constabulary, we are proud to champion the progression of women in policing. Through initiatives like Police Now, we are building a service that truly reflects the communities we serve.

I am immensely proud that within our leadership team we have two outstanding female Assistant Chief Constables—ACC Julie Dean and Temporary ACC Alice Scott—alongside three exceptional female Chief Superintendents leading our County Policing Command and our Crime, Safeguarding and Incident Management Command.

Their leadership is a testament to the strength, capability, and dedication of women in policing today.  I am also proud to chair the Senior Women in Policing Network for the UK where we support the professional development and progression of women into Chief Officer roles.”

“I did not let the fact that I am a career-changer and a member of the LGBTQ+ community stop me from joining policing. I thought I might be the oldest at Police Now’s academy but there was a really diverse mix of people there, working towards the same goal.”
