Police Now officer wins bravery award
Friday 16th May 2025
Police Now alumnus Sergeant Andy Grant and several of his incredible policing colleagues were presented with a Thames Valley Police Federation Bravery Award, for successfully detaining an armed intruder at a school in Slough.
The intruder threatened staff and claimed to have a firearm, while children in the school reportedly hid under their desks inside classrooms. The officers handled the situation with expertise and the suspect was swiftly charged and detained in a psychiatric hospital thanks to their actions.
The Thames Valley Police Federation Chair Aileen O’Connor praised their quick and professional actions in a volatile situation and said they were ‘very worthy winners’ of the award. The officers will attend the national police bravery awards this summer in further recognition of their work, alongside officers from across the country who have shown incredibly acts of bravery in the line of duty.
Sergeant Andy Grant, who joined Thames Valley Police via Police Now’s neighbourhood policing programme, said: “The awards night was brilliant. It was an honour just to be included among such outstanding nominees but to win overall was a proud moment and an amazing recognition for the whole team. The work they did on that day was exceptional. I’d also like to recognise the work of school staff who bravely and confidently managed the situation prior to police attendance.”
